Flowers are a beautiful way to adorn your ceremony space and add a special touch to your guests’ tables.  However, with so many flowers and florists to choose from, where does one begin?  Here are four suggestions for choosing your perfect florist!

Wedding Experience:

Make sure to enquire regarding your florist’s experience working weddings.  In particular, floral designers are likely to have far more wedding experience than a retail florist.   Feel free to ask to see samples or photos of their corsages, boutonnieres, etc., as these may be a less common for an inexperienced wedding florist.

Additional Fees:

Carefully examine your florist’s contract in order to understand if they charge additional fees for vases, delivery, set up, etc.  If you have a wedding planner, share your florist’s contract with him or her.  Your wedding planner can help you carefully review the contract and make you aware of any hidden costs or additional fees.  Furthermore, remember to ask your florist about the cost to take down your center pieces, as this is a duty not covered by the wedding planner. If the florist is unable to come back to take down center pieces, remember to allocate this job and the return of vases to a member of your family or wedding party.

General Knowledge:

What is your florist’s knowledge of flowers beyond design?  Are they familiar with flowers that compliment your color scheme or alternatives to an out-of-season flower you would like? It is important that they know the nuts and bolts of blooms beyond their aesthetic and design.

Flexibility:

Take note of if your florist is willing to work within your budget.  They may not be able to provide the exact bouquet at the price point you would like; however, they can likely suggest alternative flowers that provide a similar look, all within your budget.  If they have a strong general knowledge of florals and flexibility in their design, they will be able to provide beautiful bouquets while working with your budget.
